Plot and Setting
Why Remake ‘Thangalaan’ Thanglaan takes place within the early 20th century when India was nonetheless beneath Britishers Rule. Parvathy plays a firm ladylove that supports Thangalaan untill the very end quite convincingly. Pasupathy gives an intimidating performance of the antagonist character, giving more layers to the story.
Direction and Cinematography
As always Pa Ranjith is on top in direction. He tells stories that are at once entertaining and socially important, in a unique way. Not to mention that Thangalaan is a huge testimony of skills in story telling. The film moves with an excellent rhythm, and continues to build from scene-to-scene, holding the audiences interest nearly there entirety of its runtime.
The cinematography by A. Kishore Kumar is a big plus point of the film The film looks stunning, from its jaw-dropping vistas to the painstakingly realised period settings. The mood of the film is set and accentuated by lighting and color palettes, making the movie enjoyable to see visually.
Music and Background Score
G.V. Prakash Kumar delivers a soundtrack that fits the mood of the film just fine. The songs are soulful and have been integrated into the narrative so seamlessly, while background score adds to intensity of scenes. The music is essential to get the right emotions out of the film, which turns into part of story telling itself.
